New to BMW & X5

Hello, I just traded in my Saab 9-3 on Thursday for an X5. I'm very excited.

I have been reading all of the how to articles on the main page, but I have a couple questions.

My 02 X5 has a regular radio (no DSP) and a single CD player.

I would like to put in "retrofit" navigation with DSP, bluetooth enable for my cell, stick in a 6disc changer in the back, and also add sirius.

I currently have a Sirius plug and play model in there, but I want OEM.

A couple questions:

1.) I see a lot of Nav units on ebay (MKIII and MKIV, also 16:9 screens). Is there a compatibility issue between MKIII and 16:9 screens?

2.) I believe my car does not have High OBC, how can I tell?

3.) Where is the best place to go buy parts?

4.) Any rough estimate on how much this is going to cost me if I do the install myself? Again, would like Nav w/ DSP, Sirius, and 6 disc cd changer

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Best,

- B

Congrats!!

Great choice on the X5. I was going to suggest that you avoid retrofitting the navigation. Although it can be done, it would be extremely cumbersome and expensive. If you want an in-dash navigation, I would suggest looking at the Pioneer AVIC D1 which many on the forum have installed in the X5. This unit has navigation, DVD, bluetooth, etc. Eclipse also makes a nice double din navigation, with all the goodies. As to your other questions, I will let someone more experienced jump in.:welcome:

Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I have been looking around and think I may do the AVIC-Z1 Route, the unit looks pretty good.

I just need to find a decent trim / bezel I guess.

Thanks again!

Thanks, I defnitely will post pics.

I went to Circuit City this morning and looked at the AVIC-Z1, seems to be a very nice unit.

I doubt I will use CC to do the install, but rather will probably do it myself. There appears to be a wide range in prices for the AVIC-Z1 (like 1K almost), so I may go with one from an online shop.

Here is what I am going to end up doing:

1.) Install the AVIC-Z1. Still need to figure out which Bezel to go with to get the best look.

2.) Upgrade the speakers to component w/ an AMP for better sound.

3.) Install Sirius Tuner (currently have P&P unit in it now, but hate the sound, compared to my old car)

4.) Install Bluetooth phone integration kit for AVIC

5.) Install a 10" sealed sub box in a custom enclosure in the back passenger panel near the cargo so it is hidden out of site w/ no cargo space loss

A couple questions, I have seen some of the great bezel work that a member hear does, are there also any other options out there for an '02 X5?

Additionally, has anyone had any experience getting a PAC remote control device to work so that I can keep the steering wheel functions intact w/ the AVIC?

Thanks as always!
