Manual mode has a very strong downshift resulting in major engine braking. I end up honking the horn with my forehead when I slow down at a stop sign.
I have that issue in Sport Mode, but not manual mode.

I drove all day today in manual mode and it so much more enjoyable to drive without the transmission shifting every darn second in Automatic mode..shift, shift, shift, down shift, shift, shift.

BMW should fix this problem. The X5 should shift in a normal straight forward fashion like my wife's 2000 BMW 540i wagon.

The X5 does have a drivablility issue with this transmission. They need to get the software right. I am willing to pay for the Dinan chip this summer, if it fixes the problem. Then I'm going to send the bill to BMW corp. in New Jersey!
