Tire pressure for performace driving?

I'm going on a track next week and would like to know if I should change my tire pressure for performance driving.

I have 255/55R 18 Sumitomo Tires all at 32 PSI (yes, not the best race tires).

For example I could lower them to 30 for more traction? If you can further elaborate your choice that would be great.

MD...no need to provide links to google and yahoo...I always check there first

Some articles recommend using 5psi lower than the factory numbers???

I was looking for X5 specific advice, hopefully from someone who's already tried different PSI and found a sweet spot.

BTW, 2 superb links I found are here:
