Where do I find a replacement amp for my radio?

Hi, 2002 X5, 3.0, non-nav, DSP

I think mine was fried due to water getting in the back (where, who knows, but from what I have read on here, it seems to be a common problem). I have no idea what else it would be since the radio turns on, the display comes on, but NO SOUND. I heard a crackling in the speakers just prior to complete sound death.

Anyone know where the best place to either get it fixed or replace it without going through the dealer? Or does anyone think it could be something else?

I am trying to get the P/N from the dealer but plan to pull it and confirm.

Can a novice pull the amp and check it with ease? The stealer wants $165 just to remove and reinstall

Solution?

Many thanks,
X5 in 10,000 lakes

Well, you don't say what X5 you have but here's a link that might help start you in the right direction: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do...ies=E53&arch=0

You're looking at around $1300 from BMW but BavAuto might be able to do better, as could Morristown BMW or one of the other sponsoring dealers.

It's either 65124127873 or 65126940977, so you'll have to pull it to verify.

It sounds about right so check the fuses and the connections, for connectivity and corrosion. Get a voltmeter and measure at the input and at the output and that should tell you if the amp is truly blown or not.
