as far as I know, the type of speaker remains the same (except premium gives you acouple more) - I, too, am surprised that BMW does not offer a "premium name-brand" speaker set - there IS a definite difference in speaker quality - since my greatest amount of audiophile time is while driving, I opted for a better setup - I'm just lucky I visit Atlanta, so I could have BSW do the work
