Joel
Dinan only makes a supercharger for 2003 and earlier X5s without valvetronic. I have a 2004 with valvetronic. they do not make a supercharger yet for that engine. But as soon as the do i will have one. I just hate having to wait for it.

I had the choice between an 05 4.4 loaded and an 03 4.6 with 21K miles on it. I prefer the new front end but the 05 4.4 was a pig off the line and it could not get out of its own way... I was a bit surprised considering the 05 had improved horsepower and torque under the hood. I went with the 03 4.6 because it was flat out more fun to drive! I am not sure what it is... I can also tell you the 04 and 05 4.8 was pleasure to run with, but than again it's a 70K+ car... Does the 04 and 05 4.8 have Valvetronic? Maybe I should change my tag to "Steptronic".....

Car and Driver claims that the non valvetronic 4.4 X5 has better time than the new valvetronic 4.4 X5... Any idea why even though the valvetronic produces more HP and Torque???

The lag from the Valvetronic valves not lifting soon enough I guess.
I'm kinda ticked about it.

Does anyone know if the dead spot effects the 4.8 as well?

I'd like to know who tested the 4.6 and the 4.8 if the new version with valvetronic is less responsive. So is more agressive an old 4.4 or a new 4.8 with valvetronic?

I tested an 03 4.6 (which I bought) and an 05 4.8.. I was impressed with both iterations... quick off the line with great carry through...
