Retrofit to automatic light-on function

Hi all. Just a stupid question:

My X5 is equipped with rain sensor, front and rear fog light and low beam level control, the light switch is using 61318372204. Since my car is made in 12/2000, so it is not equipped with automatice light-on function. May I just change the switch to 61316909776 to have the automatic light-on function? If not, what else should I do to have this function? Thanks for any input.

you would have to get a new rain sensor...and that may require you exchanging a new windshield...not really worth it...

Or buy one for another vehicle (Around $75 for Ford) that comes with a built in sensor you could install on the dash.

Thanks for your input. Where can I get it? Is it hard to install? Thanks!

Do a quick search on the web. It will involve having to make it fit the BMW system. I never looked at the wiring to judge just how difficult it would be to do. Might be easier to just add complete new circuits to the low beam lights without disturbing the OEM circuits.

How do I know if I have the proper rain sensor to have automatic headlights? My windshield has been replaced. I understand I would need a new LCM and a switch, is that it?
