My driver side door did the same thing...like something was loose in there when shutting the door with the window down (the passenger side is very solid and sounds completely different). Had my dealer looked at it a couple of weeks ago and the invoice indicated that some nuts on the window regulator were loose and needs tightening. Picked up the car and the noise is still there. Oh well...just have to have them look at it again next visit

Keep us updated on what your dealer did to rectify the problem.

when the window is completely down, does it sound like the window glass is loose and the window bouncing in the door when you shut the door?

This is a BIG "MINUS" to BMW for X5 ...And this is ALL X5 problems with FRONT doors only...checked many of them
-with pulled down windows - sound like empty bottles of beer
-with closed windows - bad metal sound
and doesn't matter if closing slow, weak, with force - same sh...t
I think BMW should admit their mistake here :[

I can't remember but did they all do this when brand new? I ordered mine and picked it up with just 3 miles on it. I can't recall if the bad metal sound was there when new, or did it just happen over time! Anyone with a low miles, newer X5 care to comment?

99% percent they do, and I never met this 1% percent even among the brand new ones...for those who was driving other BMW series or mersedes it is really bad noise....most probably you & your X belongs to this lucky 1%.

Sounded like the glass is loose inside the door when shutting the door. May be a sign of the window regulator going bad? I don't notice this on the passenger door at all...very solid!
