All you suckers with failed oil-separators...

Consider yourselves lucky if you already have your vehicle back. Our X5 got towed in last Monday and is sitting behind the dealer's service dept. They had 50 tow-ins in the three days the temps really dropped and apparently is a common problem nationally. There's a back-order on the part, with an ETA of the 22nd. Thank goodness for our Maxima loaner from Enterprise .

The X next to ours needs a new engine because his valve-cover gasket blew and the collected moisture hydro-locked his engine. Wonder what the ETA is on that..

Sorry to hear that, I just got my car back on Monday. To let everyone know, everything got fixed, and they also added a new part to my car. It is a mini heater system (like a blanket) onto my oil sep. and hose to keep this thing from freezing. This is a bulletin from BMW that needed to be done on almost every X5 with the 4.4i engine. I have the receipt and I will try to take pics tonight to show everyone what it looks like. You can't see it, unless you know its there. It goes right behind the engine, right where the oil sep. and hose is... Very weird, but something everyone should ask your dealer about.

Any chance you could get a copy of the bulletin and post it here?
Cheers

Will be very interesting to know if this part was added in later builds of the 4.4i, or if the TSB applies to all 4.4i's up to MY2006?? I hate to think that my X5 is a ticking timebomb. If that's the case, I may try to have the TSB applied even if my oil separator has yet to grenade (my X5 is almost always parked in a heated garage)...

Is this something that BMW will do as preventive maintenance or will they only address this issue when something breaks? I live in the south, but drive to Ohio regularly to see family. I would hate for my dealer down here to laugh at me about this then when I drive to Cleveland in the winter have my engine freeze up.

I would assume when it breaks or if it looks like you are getting excessive build up.

Not to change the subject but I thought Motorworks is to be one of the best dealer? I had mine at Patrick and it was ready on Friday of last week but I couldn't pick it up untill Monday. I guess things are changing...

Motorwerks is a great dealer. They can't help it if they run out of the part and there is a national shortage of it because BMW uses a shytty oil separator causing a whole bunch of other BMWs to fail as well.
