Just got the 4.6 kit for my X

Want to know for those of fellow members that got their 4.6 kit on their X. How much did you pay to get it paint and install. I call one of the dealer body shop got quote for $500(paint and install), is that reasonable or am I paying too much. Anyone in the NYC area know good body shop that you can recommend. Thanks for any info.

Seems a bit high. To paint the kit should be around $300. Install shouldn't be much, if so you can do it yourself. Check the articles on the home page. They may help ya.

The biggest part of the installation to research is how they will mount the "Bumper Supports". Bumper support is not an apt name, it is a misnomer. They are the rear-most flare on the rear wheel wells and definitely a flare and not a support.

Some shops will incorrectly cut off the "posts" that stick out off of the bumper supports and glue them on. The posts are supposed to go into slots in the bumper. The posts then get metal clips on the inside to keep them in place. When the correct installation is done slots will be cut into the side of the the bumper to install them. These slots are stock on the 4.6 and absent on the 3.0 and 4.4.

Read my post on reinstalling one of my bumper supports and read anyone elses posts on 4.6 kit installation. I believe there is an Article on it as well.

Your idea of properly installed may differ greatly from the shops idea of properly installed. Ask them how they will do it. Ask a lot of questions. I went through a five year restoration of my Jeep and you would be surprised how different two perspectives can be on the same idea.

There was a post a while back about poor installation and parts coming off as a result.

I got mine painted and installed for $500. This also included the installation of the OEM running boards. $300 for painting and installtion should be good.

*****Semi Off-Topic*****

How much did you guys pay for your 4.6is kit? I haven't done too much research on pricing yet but I did find a site that is selling BRAND NEW OEM 4.6is kits pre-painted for $1100 + shipping. Is that a good price, normal price, or is that too much?

Bimmerfreak? If so, they don't offer the kit any more.

You can get the kit for a little under $600 from Morristown BMW, and have it painted for around $300-400.

Yeah. It was Bimmerfreak. That sucks how they still post in on their site when they don't offer it anymore. Oh well.
