Hood vents frozen solid, What will it effect.....

After the storm yesterday my top hood vents are frozen all the way through to the underside. Also the vents under the hood just under the hood vents are frozen too. Will this effect anything other then the engine bay heat? Also will the melting water be a problem? I'm thinking it won't since it gets wet when ever it rains or gets washed. Just curious though.

if it's freezing your hood, i would worry about what is freezed too...like inside the engine bay

but if it's just the hood...i don't think you have to worry much

Not worried about anything under the hood, it was shut. I'm just curious as to what the water and blockage of air would cause.

BTW how did I know you would be the first to respond?

i would suspect that there would not be anything wrong...the air vents don't have the purpose of venting engine (at least, not what they're meant for...i assume)...and when you're engine is running at the proper temperature, the ice will start to melt...

If you are referring to the vents at the rear edge of the hood, they don't go to the engine bay per se. They are the air intake for the climate control system. It isn't totally sealed off from the engine bay, but there is a rubber gasket to prevent engine bay fumes from entering that airbox under the hood.

You may or may not have any impact from restricted airflow into the cabin. That really depends on what is frozen up under the hood, more than the hood vents themselves.

When it rains, the water exits out of the drains in that airbox. If it is frozen up, the drains may be plugged. You will most likely notice that if the cabin mists up because fresh air isn't coming in. Once it thaws it should be fine, and engine bay heat should help it thaw.

If freezing has damaged anything, the most likely effect would be a water leak into the cabin.

Did you have any background or reason for that post, or did it just serve to increase your post count?

Just wondering.

Thanks JCL thats what I was thinking. I did notice alittle less air blow out the vents. Thats what made me pop the hood.
