Return the car and go somewhere else. You have to wonder if there's a problem with the title of the car. Why else would a dealer hold onto the title? I don't buy the we were overcharged.

Probably a totaled car that they are trying to wash the title.

in most states the purchaser signes power of attorney for the dealer to handle registering the car for the purchaser. Most states have laws that the dealer only has a short period of time (usually 10-14 days) check the paperwork that you signed when you bought it, and see if you can find the paper that authorizes the dealer to register the vehicle in your name. I would press the dealer to provide you with the title, as they cannot legally hold the title to a vehicle that you own. If they are holding a title that has your name on it, file for a lost title..... your name and address match the registered owner they will send you a new title. If the title isn't in your name, and the dealer refuses to budge, mention the local news station. they always have a segment on consumers having a hard time with a local business......
