Oil Usage

Hello, this is my first post, so forgive me if I have posted incorrectly some how. My question is the oil usage/consumption on my '01 3.0 X5. It has approx. 92K miles and I have had it since 55K. I only use Castrol 5w30 as this is what the dealer uses. My problem is my SAV burns about a quart of oil about every 4,000 miles. I asked the dealer about this at the last oil change and they said this was normal.

Is this a normal wear pattern for anyone else? I will take any advice I can get regarding this subject. Thanks!

Some oil burning is normal. Just make sure it does not increase, I'm sure you will get more posts on this.

Thanks. I have been watching the oil consumption. I have no leaking and had the BMW dealer check for any internal leaking as well. They reported none.

nikon,
A qt of oil every 4K miles at 92K miles, deserves an award, imo!

It is nothing to be concerned about and is
probably on the edge of outstanding.

And, welcome to the Board.

I would not be concerned either. Sound to me within the normal range.

I think the manual says 1/qt about every 5000 mi.

Not in my '01 manual.

I doubt BMW has that potential usage, in writing, anywhere in
their literature; it's optimistic at the least, pie in the sky in
reality, imo.
