How do I remove the Yankee magnet I put on my X5, no it's no that simple!

Ok, I'm a yankee fan. So last summer I decided to put that magnet Yankee decal on my X5. I figure I'll just take it off when the winter rolls around. WELL, The damn thing is stuck on there?!?!?

I tried to peel it off but parts of the magnet is stuck to the paint!!!! The decal is taring apart. I just left it hanging, so that it wouldn't look hideious with half of it gone. Does anyone know how to remove it without killing the paint? I figured that I could just pull it off, what happened?
