No biggie, but still

So I get the "Washer fluid low" message, pull over at a gas station, and as I pop the cap of the washer fluid container, the cap's attachment breaks and the cap falls down to the bottom of the engine compartment. I tried reaching it to no avail. Can you guys help me answer these questions:

1. Is there any possibility for damage or burned plastic smell if I leave the cap there? It's directly underneath the left side of the engine.

2. My car is still under warranty. Any idea if stlr will replace the cap or washer fluid container free of charge?

3. Should I use something to cover the washer fluid container to prevent it from spilling meanwhile?

Thanks!

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago. I stopped at a dealer that day and bought a new one for less than $5. I checked o the ground and did not find the old one. Like you I hope that it does not melt on something that could be damaged.

ok, thanks, that's more or less calming. let's keep each other updated if something occurs related to our situations.

P.S. You'd think BMWNA ought to issue a TSB or something.

I found the original cap sitting on the skid plate while trouble shooting an oil leak. I did a double take looking at the cap that was installed.

If you feel up to it. . . turn the wheels all the way to the left. Get down on the ground and look through the wheel well behind the passenger front wheel. You'll be able to see the starter and probably you cap sitting on the skid plate.

Cover it up in the meantime - perhaps a piece of tinfoil with an elastic will hold you over until you get a new one.
