I ask too... why?
The computer automatically adjusts idle, depending on engine temp... |

Mine idles at about 500 - 550 and I can feel a slight vibration from the engine while sitting at a light. If I give it just a tiny bit of gas, i.e. another 50 or so rpms, she's smooth as silk. I think the X5 idle setting is just another fuel economy thing (like the way the tranny doesn't shift to a low enough gear around a neighborhood corner) and I think the engine would benefit from a slightly higher idle, i.e. from less vibration. Most vehicles have a warm engine idle somewhere around 700 - 800 rpms which I think is better for the engine. Unless it's a loping Harley motor, 500 rpms is barely running...

In a word. . .No.
Everything is controlled by the engine and trans computers. You can try re-calibrating your throttle body. It involves turning the key on and off a couple of times. The complete proceedure is list in the articles

J, aren't you still under warranty. It may be a sign of a bad iavc or motor mounts.
