Ball Joint

I have a 00' 4.4i with a bad ball joint on the drivers side. The dealer wants $1700 to change. I cant do it myself due to lack of tools, and area. I have changed BJoints on Infiniti before. But dont want to get in over my head, since i am not to familiar with BMW suspension. Anyone in the DC, VA area willing to help out? for a price of course..

$1700 to replace a ball joint!!! That does not make sense to me. That must include a lot of other things. What do they do for that amount? Replace the entire front axle support? Like on most other cars replacing the ball joints on the X is not that difficult. Did you check this article? http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...trol-arms.html

Well i got the ticket it says $1000. And he told me the ball joint was bad. And he mentioned the control arm. But not replacing it. He just talked about the control arm being a pain in the ass to remove. But never said it needed replacing.
