The good thing was I originally had an aftermarket hitch on there and the body shop replaced it with an OEM hitch

And you are lucky you drove away - this accident tripped the safety shutoff and the X would not start, so she was towed.

Recently I was thinking about adding roof rack instead of hitch to carry bike. Maybe it's better installing hitch.
