If you like inferior handling on real roads but the ability to go offroad then get a pepper. Who the hell takes any of these off road?

I take my old Landcruiser offroad all the time but that is what it was built for.

No one can help you make this decision. I mean seriously. Why would folks around here help you make a decision you may regret. The ride you get is gonna fit your personality and personal choice. Me i drove everything 2,3,4 time before i made my decision. So go drive them both til you wear the salesman out then make the choice.

I also want to upgrade from my 3.0 to a larger engine and was considering the Cayenne. I went out looking for a Porsche forum. Based on the following forum, it sounds like the Cayenne has excellent performance, perhaps better than BMW, but the reliabilty and customer service appear to be terrible.

http://www.germanautoforums.com/

I also did a resale comparison on the Cayenne S and the X5 4.4i on Yahoo Auto/Autotrader, and the BMW appears to have a higher resale value in comparison to it's original purchase price. (A used X5 4.4i is currently more expensive than the Cayenne S).

Of course, I have only ridden in a Cayenne and haven't driven one, so I can't make a complete, accurate comparison. However, this forum combined with resale comparisons were enough to make me decide to stick with BMW for now.

Listen mate. Its your money. You have to sit in it. You have to drive it. You make the decision. Honestly. They are two very different cars.

I hate to be behind you at a MacDonalds drive thru....

Cheers
