Brake Squeak Noise... HElp me...
about an week ago "check brake lining" warning came on with RED brake sign.
i went to body shop and asked what's going on. they took of my wheels and found my pads has only about 2mm left. but i couldn't replace it rightaway because of the time. so i went back to shop after a week later, with BMW syntec oil and Sensors to do it all together. he did change oil and brake pads ( he said original bmw part ) but not the sensors he told me i can reuse it. so we did the just pad and oil change job. and yes, red brake light still staying but brake job seemed good to me. and he promised that he will replace the sensors next time for free. but the problem started about 10minutes after i left the shop. i was heading to the toll lowering my speed and at about 20mph it was sqeaking, i didn't know if it was from my car because from high speed more than 30mph i couldn't hear any squeaks if i hit the brake slowly. but when i came back to my neighbor and hit the brake at low speed as 10~30 i hear really loud squeaks, i was so shocked and afraid what the hell is this sound, so called shop rightaway to ask if it's normal ? he said it should be gone soon. is it right? please help me someone..... how do i avoid this damn annoying very loud sound, and is red brake light will be gone after sensors replaced? oh yea I did research of this forum and found about bedding!! let's say i just run my baby for about 500 miles is there any chance this noise will go away? cause i usually drive about 100miles a day. How many miles do you have? might be time to change the rotors too... are you sure the mechanic used original BMW pads? I would find another mechanic... the one you have does not sound too competent..

The noise should go away within a few hundred miles or so. The squeal is common if you change pads but not rotors. Sensors cannot be used once the red light comes on. Did he check your rotors for minimum thickness?

Yes He Did Check The Rotors And He Said Rotors Fine,
And He Took 4hours For 4 Brake Pad Changed And 30mins For An Oil Change. Is It Very Usual? Because I Feel Like It's Way Too Long Than Normal. And I Have X5 3.0i 2003 60k Miles |

Squeaking with new brakes is common and will eventually go away - faster if you bed them properly. And, an hour per wheel is a bit long for just pads. It took me that long to replace all 4 rotors and pads and one of my rotors had to be pounded off.

hmm...
and how much is right price to pay for 4 original bmw pads change? with oil change together? shop ordered original bmw pads but i brought in 8qts of bmw 5w30 syntec oil. and 4 hour job. i'm asking because i feel like i paid bit too much.... how much it should cost around? and 1more final question.... can i change the sensors my self? since i feel like he didn't do good job.... do i need special tools to do it? or should i just bring it into him again/'? damn i hope i had my garage to fix it and mod it around myself ... so atleast i will know what part i touched and what's not working..... Sure, you can replace the sensors yourself. You'll have to take the wheel off to get to install. One on the front and one on the rear. Pads aren't too hard to do yourself but it is a bit more advanced. Oil changes are easy.
Can't comment on the cost...depends on their hourly rate. Should have taken them 2 hours max to do 4 sets of pads and an oil change. |
