exhaust replace or not?

So i was rear ended 2weeks ago, not that hard, but enough to bend my exhaust tips and scratch my oval tip(4.8) so the body shop, re polished and refinished my oval tips. But i still notice that one of the exhausts is pushed in and is a bit out of shape more then the other..

So i took it to a muffler shop thinkin they could simply adjust it;
they said they could not due to the actual exhaust tips that go into the oval piece are bent, so they said the only thing i can do to make it look normal again is to get a new muffler piece.

Im not tryin to go out and spend 600 on new muffler canister simply because my exhaust tips are out of alignment

what do u guys think??Suggestions?

Is there any trouble with the exhaust system, or is it just cosmetic. If it is just cosmetic, then it is your personal preference. On my X, I have scratches on my passenger door, back quater panel, crooked bumper with scratches. But I figure I will be getting rid of my car within a year or so. No reason to put ot at least $2k. They bother me sometimes, but I do not think I will get it fixed. My $0.02.

Can they cut the tips off , reweld/tack with new tips/4.8 tips housing ?
Don't recall hot the pipes come out of the 4.8 exhaust....but I guess welding may be the most aesthetic/cost effective option.

I would think your insurance would cover the cost of making it look and function as it did prior to the accident. At the least I would go back to the body shop, point out the problem and have them determine how to repair properly. Maybe they can fix it, or will come to the same conclusion about the need for a muffler. In either case insurance should cover it.

If you are not going through insurance, then it's just a matter of how much of an 'issue' it is with you. The more it bothers you, the more worth the cost to fix.
