pneumatic springs question

Driving to work last week I received the dreaded self leveling suspension error. Limped home and discovered fuse 87 (30amp) was blown. Replaced fuse and the rear end came right back up. After turning off the truck, I noticed a hissing sound from the passenger side air bag. FYI - This summer I had the driver’s side replaced at the dealership for $800.

Replaced the right side pneumatic spring and reconnected everything but the new bag won’t inflate. I have checked fuses 79 & 87 to no avail. I can remove these fuses to trigger a self leveling suspension failure error, but once they are back in still no right side suspension. My left side is at normal height.

My X5 is a 4.4 non sport 2001 67K miles with Eibach front springs & Dealership DIS adjusted rear suspension. No Xeons or SAT/NAV.

Any ideas on what I should be looking for? Did I really save myself $500 changing the pneumatic spring myself? BTW – it’s a simple 30 minute procedure.

Thank you in advance, Eric in AZ
