2001 X5 Cargo cover -- how to remove?

Hi All,

I have a 2001 X5 with a BMW cargo cover that came OEM in the back. I have to ship some rather large items which means I have to remove it, but I can't figure out how.

Any ideas??

Scott

It's kinda hard the first time you remove it, but slide the cargo cover all the way backwards towards the rear seat. Look at where the plastic seam ends (about an inch wide), and line up both of the wheels that slide on the track inside where the plastic seams end. Push up once they are free and clear of the tracks and brackets. Like I said it's kinda hard the first time and it feels like you might break it, but if it's aligned it will pop right out.

There are two blocks that come out of the track. They are at the end of the track nearest the back seat. The cover needs to be pulled to the rear of the cargo compartment. Stick your finger in the track horizontaly and you'll find a trigger which releases the block. It removes straight up. You can then push the cover forward and out of the track. The fun part is putting it back together and getting the cover squared up in the track. If you find out how (other than trial and error) let me know.

Basically push the cover as much as you can towards the rear seat and then push up on one side. When that comes out of the track, pop out the other side. Like stated previously, it will feel like you are breaking it the first few times you do.

I removed mine last year and have not missed it since. Of course I do have dark tinted windows too.
