Water in rear driver side storage area...

The rear storage area is getting wet in my 01' 4.4i I'm glad I don't have NAV or CD changer because they would be trashed. Amazingly, my radio/amp are still working. It had rained the day the speakers started poping, so I went back to see what the problem was, only to find the radio/amp dripping wet. I went home and unplugged the amp and blew all the water out of the wiring plug as well as the amp socket with my air compressor. The socket on the amp had an inch of water in it. Everything is working fine.

Then I remembered that when I bought the thing (used, 30K miles), the radio was dead, and when I check the amp connection it was all corroded. The dealer replaced the amp inder CPO. So obviously, this has been an ongoing problem with this vehicle even before I owned it.

Anyone got any ideas or know anything about this problem?

Thanks,

Joe

Check the seals on the rear lights. I also remember somebody finding a hole in the bodywork in the rear. Do a search for all the articles.

ditto on the foam gasket for the tail lights. I had a similar problem on my e39 (well, just the traces of water at the bottom). also, there are vent crates (at least on my e39) in both compartments you may want to check just in case.

Check the rear spoiler as well. Dunno if you added any sirius etc, but if it's not sitting properly, it will flow as well.

I had this exact situation ~one month ago. I added a satellite radio antenna inside the spoiler 18 months earlier, with no leakage. Over time, the rubber grommet around the wire leading into the upper tailgate/hatch became a bit dislodged. Water ran down along the wire, right into the electronics area.
