Exclamation Loss of power when driving!!

I switched cars with my dad for a week, and he's been driving the X. Anyways, he told me today that while driving, there is a sudden loss of power and he has to stop the car and restart the engine...this is a potential disaster waiting to happen because you can be easily rammed from the rear. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with my recent intake install..so I wanted to get some ideas on why this could be occurring?

Thanks.

Either your X5 or your Dad need a diagnostic checkup. Either way, the problem should reveal itself. Good luck

thanks for the jackass response buddy ...all i was asking was if anyone knew or had any idea of what it could be...completely unnecessary comment on your part...

anyways, it will be going to the dealership tomorrow morning.

Dont quite agree with this coment either! slvrX201 asked a fair question and this is supposed to be a forum for friendly help. When people need some info and help, its forums like this that supply an inexpensive and fairly just soultion what ever the cost. You should keep said comments to yourself and be more forth coming with relative info, if you have no reliable info to give then best to say nothing.

Sorry you didn't appreciate my friendly humor. Well, I'm glad the car is going in for the diagnostic I suggested. No offense meant.

I agree, some of the 3series have this problem also, get the code read at an Autozone and if it is the cam sensor there's a diy in the home page.
