Transfail safe progam
We have 2002 X5D Sport Auto and for quite some time now we periodically get the Trans fail safe program coming up on the computer We have had the car checked and the diagnostics re-set but it still keeps coming on particularly when the car is at crawling speed. When on the car still feels ok and i am sure we still have access to all gears (the manual says when this comes on the car will have limited gears) Anyone else had the same problem? |

:xoutpost:![]() the transmission won't let you change gears because it's trying to limit itself from breaking down. when that message comes up, there is a serious problem. would you happen to be near 100,000 miles? search for the trans failsafe and you'll find a lot of infomation

Just had that happen to mine a 4.8is with 35000 miles. The dealer duplicated my problem and now they are waiting for BMW to get back to them as to what to do. I was stuck in drive and in one gear, no sport mode or manual shifting available at all. I will update what BMW says later today.

Had a Trans fail safe program notice just after exiting fwy and running the car rather hard in excelleration to avoid another vehicle, something I rarely do. Message remained on (although normal gear access and mesh seemed remained). Stopped at an errand location. When I got back in the vehicle, all notice had disappeared and drove rest of the day without incident. Car has 41,000 miles and never been pushed nor driven badly. A total mystery. Any input would be appreciated.
