X5 Turbo Diesel engine oil type? and service?

Hi, i have a 2006 X5 Turbo Diesel and i would like to do its first service. i was wondering if anyone can help me with regards to the type of engine oil the Turbo Diesel uses as well as how much oil?

Also my X5 has consumed what seems to be a bout a litter of oil since it was driven out of the show room. Is oil consumption normal with Turbo Diesel or is it normal with as the car is brand new?

last question. i love the car, but i have seen a lot of negative comments about the X5's reliability on the web. should i be worried?

Thanks

In Italy we use Castrol SLX 0-30
What you have to rember is that there are a lot of negative people in the world so you can expect a few negative comments.
I have had two Range Rovers all with the BMW motor, also a BMW 530d and now a new BMWX5 3.0d and never had a problem. Just keep changing the oil and filter and you will be fine. roger

They do use quite a bitof oil mine used a bout half litre in about 7000 miles if I remember right. My friend 535d used 1.5 litres in the same time. Mine has seem to settled down now.

BMW uses Castrol TXT. The Dealer should be able to tell you that aswell as expected oil consumption

I've been told only to use Castrol TXT by BMW in Port Macquarie but when I went to buy some while in Brisbane - Brisbane BMW only had one litre left because they had changed all their oils over to Shell. Go figure?!

Use the oem oil, Castrol SLX, that's offered to you guys in Europe. It is VERY good quality oil.

Castrol Introduces a New Revolutionary Oil for the BMW Group ...

Sounds like that oil consumption is normal. New engines especially will use up some oil since the engine isn't always fully lubricated and there are break-in factors, etc... As long as you're not consuming a liter of oil every thousand miles, than I think you're okay.
