Defrost on max?!

So I turn the defrost on for the first time tonight since it got a bit muggy out. Like my E46, the air went straight to "max"..No biggie, but after a couple seconds, and subsequently going deaf, I go to turn the thing down to about half, (to still keep it on,) and WTF?! The thing would not adjust! Is it broke?!

I could be wrong, but I think on the front defrost it's all or nothing. I think both of my X's did that.

take it off of auto and use the up directional flow arrow control to aim it at the windshield.

Correctodmundo, but also be sure the "snowflake" button is on, for dry, dehumidified, air. And, you can adjust temp(s), manually for that app.
