No. They aren't legal. (At least in IL).

Actually according to DOT Federal Regulations it is completely legal to run white LED front turn signals. You must have amber sides and rears although most run white sides without any issues.

I think they are a great upgrade:

Are there amber leds for clear sides? The egg yolk affect looks bad in the day time on my X and 3 series. Thanks.

Sure are, we have them available in xenon white or amber. They are of course completely white when off to get rid of the egg yolk effect.

I see them all the time here in L.A. Some of them are too bright, but it depends on the opacity of your turn signal lenses. Some of the LED's are too white and are too attention getting. The last thing I'd want is a cop looking over in my direction because my turn signals caught his/her eye.

The white LED's lactually look pretty good with smoked front and rear clear lenses (see plenty of M3's set up this way). I've seen blue and red LED's which is tragically ugly and stupid.

Inexpensive mod - watch out out for the cheap stuff flooding the market. Go with someone who will warranty the lights like Umnitza and JLevis. Tom G at EAS might be selling them too.
