funny noise

last week i fitted a tow hitch to my x5
i have not been very far since then in the car
i drove the car today and when i get to around 60mph or faster i get a noise from the rear of the car
it gets a bit louder the faster i go
the noise sounds like a compressor sort of noise not continuos it is intermitant like a pulse
im only guessing it has something to do with the fitting of the tow hitch
has any one got any idea

thanks

There is a rubber cover under the rear bumper that bolts to the frame. Is this loose? Might have been forgotten in the install.

Not sure, but make sure all the bumper stuff got reattached properly.
You might have knocked something loose in the spare tire area when you were messing around in there.
Hitch install shouldn't create any noises.
Also possible that it is an unrelated coinicedental noise...

I did have the compressor noise for a while, I have hitch too, but I installed it 1 month after I purchase my car. So i think the compressor noise is normal? anyone??
