I had a 4 runner and LandCruiser I went off roading with-I live out here in the desert-really didnt enjoy it as much as riding MX bikes out there so I bought this one for snow on pavement only. I do have a 96 Dodge 4X4 short bed for running round out here.

"zizux" - I'm just up the road from you(Idaho Falls) and get down there from time to time (especially when traveling to Las Vegas). Too many on this website(Aussies excluded) don't seem to realize there are still many "roads" out here that are not paved. Though having driven Ford Broncos(1979-2001), the X5 is not what I'd call a true "4-wheeler" for offroading.

I'm well aware that it isn't a "fully capable offroad rig". I've got friends with rediculess setups for rock crawling and a friend who runs deasert trucks.

But I just figured most the peeps on here probably don't take their SAV's off road

Here is a pic of one such friends setup.

Thats my old 4runner in the background

Porsche did a study that resulted in discovering 95% of SUVs dont go off road. Like I said I used to but its more fun off road on a motocross bike. My X5 is for going through snow on roads (not to mention looking good and going fast(dry conditions))

I would say around here that number is closer to 60% don't go offroad.

Many Utards have motocross, atv's camp, etc or in some other way do something that requires atleast some "offroadness"

I wouldn't consider your pics off-roading, but that looks fun nevertheless, a little mud and I don't think the X will make it especially with street tires.

Best dealership in the nation is there, IMHO. Great mechanic and service/parts has always treated me great. Reasonable rates too as it only is a small dealership. Did a factory p/u on my 2006. Love it out there.

At the factory you get to slam on the brakes from 70mph on wet pavement AND steer around a righthand turn. The X5 brakes and ABS work great! Went around that turn like it was on rails. They let you know and experience just what the X5 can do. Highly recommend a factory p/u no matter which BMW you buy.

Aimster is on a distinguished road
empty parking lot, an inch of snow.
40mph, slammed brakes

X5 didn't want to stop. ABS was kicking in hard. Finally it stopped.

No snow tires.
