Offroading

So I have had my 2000 X5 4.4i for all of about 4 days and I already took her rompin through the Desert. I live in Phoenix and I used to Baja Race so I have a lot of experience with 4x4 ing.

Ok now you guys are probably never gonna do what I did because you would have had a hernia just thinking about it, but I put her through the ringer.

No damage, no rolling, and well thats all the good.

She had power, but I'm thinking maybe the X-drive system would have come in handy going up some steep parts.

I was racing about 40-45 on the unpaved dirt roads and even for a 2000 she did surprisingly well. Where other SUV's would have fish tailed she stayed glued down. We all don't expect a rock crawler so I didn't get to extreme with her. I had her tetering on one rear wheel and one front with about a 4 ft drop to my front left and when I came down my passenger and I's hearts dropped because we felt we were sure to flip. I could have used more clearance in the wheel wells and of course ground clearance but overall I give The X5 about a c+ off road and a A- in Baja'in. At least if you don't go off any jumps. As far as traction and stability for winter roads I feel she would do fine. For what its worth being a SAV hahaha I like it.

I hope you like my story. I'm new to the board and I hope I can become a part of it and share stories.

Thanks Greg

I've got some 18's for sale if you need some rims for nobby's. I'm in AZ too, I just got a 2000 X5 4.4i also so I am a relatively new X'er as well. Though you prob won't see me offroad too much lol.

I have 18" factory rims on it already and I put the most all weather all terrain tire I could fit on it. I'm probably gonna outfit it with some 22's now.
