warped rotors on a 4.4 in 7000 miles

my X5 4.4 has 7000 miles on it and has warped rotors. i brought it to the dealer and they replaced the rotors under warranty and left the old pads. it is a 2004. Has anyone else warped there rotors in 7000 miles. I just cant believe they warped in shut a short amout of miles. this is the first BMW i have ever had that has warped the rotors.

Have not heard anything outright, but alot of articles about X5 test drives, often mention they "had to take it easy" or "could not drive it as the brakes had faded from earlier test drives in the morning" - Trouble is quality replacement brakes usually mean min 19" wheels which are not recommended for snow/winter driving.

Anyone have some suggestions???

I would hazard the guess that the lug nuts were not evenly torqued. Additionally, when they replaced the rotors they SHOULD have replaced the pads.

I've never had a problem with warped rotors, mine is a '01....

Where do you live? Hows the traffic? I think the other post had a good point -- possibly over tightened lug nuts or the rotors themselves could have been defective?

I have a 04 4.4 and got the same problem. Dealer replace rotor and pad. So you should talk to your dealer about the old pad issue

Mine just started a shimmy when I brake which I believe is
the same problem. ( Rotors) 8200 miles

I have a 04 4.4 with 25K on it and that hasn't been an issue. And I have switched wheels three times now.

I have warped more rotors than I count.. But it was always on a racetrack. I find it very strange that you warped em on a X5. Cracked I could understand, but warped???

I will give you this advice, if you do a lot of aggressive braking and tend to get your equipment "hot", give them a chance to cool down before you stop the car and park. If your pads are HOT HOT HOT and you park the car, the area of the rotor nearest to the pad could warp. So try to drive the car for a few minutes without heavy braking. (lets the air cool the equipment.)
and most importantly, when you do stop, don't pull up your e-brake. That is the quickest way to warp rotors.

If you find this happens often with your rotors, there is a very cheap mod I could also recommend. RAM AIR for your brakes. It is an easy setup with supplies you can pick up at home depot. Essentially what you do is buy a scoop and some hoses. You install the scoop on the bottom of the car under the engine compartment and run the hoses into the wheel wells. This way, as you drive, air is forced into the scoop, through the hose, and onto the brakes..

I will post pictures of the RAM AIR setup I have on my Pcar when it gets back from the shop..

Good advise, B-line! Try going over Teton Pass down into Jackson Hole. You will definitely find out how well your brakes work, or don't! The ram-air sounds pretty good. Look forward to more info. Thanks!

Thanks for all the info guys. Now you got me worried though that they did not change the pads just the rotors. How does putting old pads on new rotors affect braking and brake feel and will the old pads warp my new rotors quicker.
Thanks
