I purchased a 2004 X5 4.4 new instead of a 2003 because there were about 120 inprovements over the 2003. New engine and 6 speed tranmission Plus..??
Over the weekend I got into a argument with my son, a M5 owner. So can anyone help me out....
Your son might be referring to the engine changes. Some of us have had some annoying problems with the Valvetronic engines.

The stuff posted below is from a post of mine from another board originally posted to help a 3.0d owner re diferences but edited especially for you

UK Figures/info :

Prefacelift : 320 BHP / 0-62 7.5 /Max speed 143 mph/mpg imperial 20.3

Facelift : 218 BHP /0-62- 7.0 /Max speed 149 mph/ mpg imperial 21.6

Facelift cars have revised front bumper with larger fog lamp recesses, minor revised bonnet, new headlamps- including angel eyes. Also different steering wheel design on sport models & X drive, (more sophisticated 4x4 and abilty to reduce/transfer power if traction breaks). Front grills are a little bigger at front too and rear lights slightly different -although you need to get up very close to tell the difference between facelift and non facelift cars from the rear. 6 speed auto boxes std on facelift, (pre facelift=5speed), The alloys were also upgraded on the facelift cars too. An important feature often overlooked is that the sunroof option on the facelift cars is considerably superior with a full panoramic roof as opposed to the conventional tilt/slide glass affair on the preface lift cars.

Bear in mind info is for UK cars and no info re std pdc xenon as mentioned by another on here and which I have no reason to question. Above is not a paste fro another source but based on me having too much useless info in my head.
