Engine valve cover paint is bubbling/flaking?!

What could be causing my engine valve cover paint to be blistering? I just bought this vehicle and it did have a fairly recent service of replacing a leaking valve cover gasket - under warranty. I don't really see how this could have caused the cover to be blistered, but who knows? Is this some sort of X5-wide problem?

Yup, any hot coolant on your valve covers will cause the paint to bubble up then eventually flake
