i was at gas station anhour ago. didn't fully turn off the engine while fueling. took me about 3minutes to get filled up. but th e thing is radio and ac was turned on. i didn't think battery will drain this quick but it did. i wasn't able to start the damn engine. so i asked him if i can use jump cable. he said he doesn't have 1 for use, but they sell the cables . so i paid $14.00 to buy it and it started. i ran freeway for 30mins now it seems all good. let's all becareful |

Glad you got it going... but... I suggest you trickle charge that battery and have your electrical system checked. There is no way a fully charged battery would fail in 3 minutes. Good luck.

Maybe you weakened the battery during your angel eyes installation (left doors open, played radio, checked the AE's without the motor running, etc). It may be that you just need to fully charge the battery. On this site you can find proper battery voltages that you can verify with an inexpensive multimeter from your local auto store, Walmart, etc. There is also good info on chargers like the Battery Tender. The battery could be going out as you mentioned (as it is an '03), but it probably just needs a good overnight trickle to bring it back to full charge. That is what I would do first - test it and charge it. You have nothing to lose.

thanx alot for info ncx.
let me tell you the full story. i had halogen light and converted to xenon. my angel eyes are LEDs with light boxes. i installed em 3days ago my self. i wired them with low beam wires. didn't wire them to parklight because voltage changes when give signal that's what i heard. and also relay packs for xenon conversions are wired to low beams as well to avoid check sginals. i currently not receiving any warning signals. one of my fog light went out 2weeks ago. and i replaced them today with MTEC h11 super white bulbs. i drove with head and fog lights on today about 4hours. and then went to gas station and this thing happened. i had to run freeway about an hour to come back home. rested at home about an hour. and i came out to go to laundromat, car started smooth. and again i drove my car about 20minutes parked the car to drop off my clothes and waitted inside the car about 30minutes until it gets done. after 30mins, turned off my car, walked into laundromat ,picked up the clothes, tried to start engine, and it won't start again.... jumped car again... came back home through freeway..(so battery might get charged) turned off engine immediately when i got back home.. waitted about 3minutes and engine started smooth again... it seems battery gets charged when car runs, but if i park the car with engine on it won't start... is it because my battery didn't get fully charged? or is my battery draining when i'm idling? ha...ha...ha.. help me |

I had a recent similar experience. Running the A/C would kill the battery. Turned out to be a dying alternator. A load test at a local auto parts store will prob'ly show whether it's a weak battery or a sickly alternator.

If your battery died after 3, 10, or 20 minutes with everything on, your battery is weak or your charging system has a problem. Is it your original battery? If so, replace it and work from there.

that's what i'm afraid of...i too have an '03 3.0 and i believe when i purchased it...it still has the original battery. i am just waiting for the day that it will die on me.
happened to me once with another suv. its funny because i look at the dash to see if the battery light would go on every time i start engine but it never showed especially when i know its been 3-4 years with the same battery. so when i got out of the supermarket and tried to start. it wouldn't. lucky for me i was in the same plaza where there's an auto parts store and they jumped my suv right up and i went straight to get a new battery at another auto parts store. now my question is, will the X5 or any BMW show an idicator light that battery is running low or i will just have to find out the hard way?

Most likely the dreaded "clunk, clunk" some morning. If it's that old you'll be hearing it soon. My '01 is on the third battery at least. There was a VW battery in it when I bought it that failed soon thereafter.
