My X5 T-Bones a Hyundai
I was travelling at about 70kmh and saw it coming. I had a chance to slow to about 30kmh when we impacted, my airbags didn't deploy and no one was injured although the passenger travelling in the Hyundai was lucky we didnt hit a bit sooner. The police were amazed at how little damage there was to the X5 although I worry about what may have been bent underneath? Unrelated issue Whilst under my car looking for damage I noticed that I have split the front left CV boot...Great. Last edited by sgt.sweetchuck; 05-06-2007 at 02:13 AM. |

First of all, I am glad everyone involved is ok.
Your X5 held up very well in this-I would say a new hood, bumper carrier, bumper cover and paint and you will be good to go. And I hate to say this, but at least the ol' Hyundai is now out of it's misery!

Michelle,
In Australia it is very rare for someone not to wear their seatbelts (many years of campaigns by the government and heavy fines). Car manufacturers therefore set the airbag threshold higher in Australia (actually I think they set it lower in the US where seatbelt use is not as universal), so you would never see airbag deployment over here if you hit something at only 30 km/h (18 mph). |

He wasn't going that fast, airbags shouldn't have deployed.

Might be a good opportunity to get a free face lift, or at least some clear lights and titanium grills

Glad you are ok. I am always amazed at how well these X5's come out of wrecks.

Note to the OP: make sure there is a thorough inspection of the structure. While the bumper may look okay, there are the structures mentioned above that deform to absorb impacts, and these must be replaced to provide adaquate protection in the future. |
