CV boot replaced for peanuts...

I got my CV boot replaced by my Dad's local mechanic in Toronto. I was given the quote for $500 to replace it from BMW stealer in Michigan. This weekend my Dad's mechanic took a look at it and replaced it for only $85 incl. parts and labor. That was cool. Stealers are really stealers.....

question is... can you get that price again?

kewlx5 can back me up on this. most indy shops that haven't done this work don't really know how much is really involved with the x5. its not like other cars and requires alot more work. so when they take a look at the price for the parts and see its about 25 bucks usd, they think, it can't be that bad... then they go and perform the work, take 3-6 hours and stick to their original promise to you. but now they know how bad it can be, they won't charge the same discount again unless you are family/friend...

Well, the mechanic said it was not that bad and could have charged me less (my Dad give him a lot of business) but he needed a special socket that he had to buy to open a particular nut. He showed me a special tool that blow some air and then fixes it somehow to the shaft. Anytime any of you want to go there, let me know and i'll let him know or you can take my name as a reference.
