SES light on...

My SES light came on my 2001 X5 3.0i. The first time I checked the code, it showed P0365. It was the camshaft position sensor, exhaust side. Replaced that and the SES light came on again within 2 days.

This time it P0505, idle control valve malfunction. Replaced that and the SES light came on again within one day.

Now this time the code is both p0141 (bank 1 sensor 2; heater circuit malfunction) and p0340. (CPS intake)

I read on this forum that P0141 is a false code, and im doubting if P0340 is the real code because the initial code was p0365.

My question is, do both the CPS go out around the same time? I really dont want to keep throwing money on new sensors when they arent bad and the codes are false. What should I do at this point? plus I dont know if I should even deal with P0141 yet.

Thank you,
Mustafa Ali

CPS have been know to fail at or around the same time. Not every time but it can happen.

If you can get a BMW code reader like a peake it will help a lot. The general codes are hard to isolate when they hit in sequence like that. My guess is you have a MAF starting to go, it will impact almost any system and sometimes not give a MAF specific code right away.

The BMW tool will be well worth the investment and help diagnose better.

Good Luck !

Peake Code/Reset Tool. Around $149 or so.

UPDATE #2

After replacing both CPS, i got the SES light popping up again. its getting annoying, this time the code said P0141 (bank 1 sensor 2; heater circuit malfunction).

does anyone really know if O2 sensors go bad this early at 55K on the odometer? how much do O2 sensors go for?

im afraid im chasing a ghost with these codes.

ill keep you guys updated with what i do.

takecare,
mustafa
