Question What good (if any!) is the BMW phone that came with my '03 4.6L?

The original owner felt compelled to order my X5 with the BMW cell phone. It takes up space in the center console and I was wondering what I can do with it. I'm assuming there is some sort of monthly service for actually using it, right? How would I even get that set up? What if I decide that I want to remove it, so that I can actually USE that space under the flip-up lid on the center console - how would I go about removing it? Isn't it tied into the Nav and steering controls? Does it have BMW Assist in it?

I've seen that "Emergency" choice on my Nav screen but I don't have the button up next to the sunroof controls, so is that my BMW Assist?

I know, lots of questions, but they are mostly related! I've done some searching, but no love!

Thanks!

I am not sure but I think its verizon. but its a way outdated phone, I think you can buy a bluetooth kit for it though. I remember reading something about a "puck" but Im not sure if this works for you. Its supposed to plug right in to your current phone slot and then picks up bluetooth off of a better phone.

this is the basic Idea. I think bmw makes one of these. assuming the phone you are talking about is the motorola v60 (metal silver egg shaped phone)

this is what it looks like.

you can find the build year of your x in the driver door. make sure it was built in 03, it sounds like bmw used the cpt8000 phone in 2003 but the build dates were 09/2002-12/2002 even though it was Model year 2003. So if you have the cpt 9000 you can bluetooth your x for about $300 from the dealer. if you have the 8000 system its about $1500 to use this method as they have to replace your TCU. so then the other bluetooh option in the forum is a better choice.

If I were you and wanted bluetooth send morristown bmw a PM then(BMW dealer in NJ with GREAT prices):
http://www.xoutpost.com/accessories-f...orristown-bmw/

and ask them for a price quote on the bluetooth puck. for the cpt 9000. assuming your current cell phone has bluetooth you are good to go.
