Interesting, all OEM BMW parts hold a 2 year warranty in the states, it may be different overseas.

yes, the part has two year warranty here also, but the labor (aka the installation) has only one year. So, if the part is defective, it's under warranty but if there is something with the connections, i'm walking out with a bill. The best (worst) scenario is that they don't even find anything wrong and i'm paying for their time.

I didn't see it in any posts so at the risk of asking a dumb question have you checked out the iPod at another source?

Tested it with my Mac and it connects as usual. Going to try the beemers connection with another iPod tomorrow to make sure it's not my iPod that's being tricky.

Problem located. It seems that connector wire is malfunctioning. After some fiddling, stereo finds the iPod. Strange though, 'cause i've been very careful with the wire in the glovebox.
Anyway, problem located and solved.
