servotronic steer

Hi. I have servotronic steering in my 2003 mod. I have noticed that the models without have a more precision steering in sport drive. Question: I would like to by-pass mine. Is possible to take out the fuse of the servotronic and test to drive without it?

I think it might work... I recently noticed my servotronic wasn't working. Had dealer read out memory: it said sudden, brief powerfailure. But after turning off the engine and starting it again the problem was gone...

just curious since we are talking about sterring. I came from a Mercedes E class where steering is so easy i could turn with my pecker. Now in my 01 NON sport X5 it feels like i am driving a 4x4. that normal? because range rovers dont feel like a 4x4.

i have a 02 4.4 and how do i know if i have servo steering and what does it do, I recently have felt the steering get heavier and looser when i turn, it almost feels as if i need to turn the steering wheel more to turn. I first thought it might be because of the 22's but now reading this post, this might be it.

So how do i know? and what components of the suspension would make the steering feel this way?

Servotronic was an option. It makes steering standing still and at low speeds very light, but gets heavier when speed increases. If your X5 isn't equipeed with it, your car has powersteeringsteering which always feels a bit heavy (especially when your used to Japanese or US cars or Merc).
