I'm glad you didn't go and buy handles and all the other things(lol). I'm in the same boat and you are exactly right. My window gets stuck if it is rolled all the way down. Wifey tried to roll it up and the window got stuck on the door handle assembly which caused the unflushed look. I found a site that says to put zip ties in the place of the broken clip to hold it indefinately because the piece that is broken is made of plastic (which is bound to break) Pictures would be great because I just done a quick fix (not rolling the window down all the way lol) until I pass the NCLEX (10 Sept). The site didn't have the pics anymore so it would help out a lot of people and save people alot of money if detailed pictures of this fix is actually seen. Thanks SSL and I hope this helps.

Here are the pictures of the broken clip with the cable out of the track. The loud popping noise is from the nut on the cable. As the window is rolled up, the nut hits the opening on the black bracket. This is when the pop sound is heard. Does anyone have a price on this clip? I am going to the dealer next week.

That for that guide. I wish the photos were up before I removed the entire foam panel. Cutting that area would have been much easier.

Can you just purchase just that clip from the dealer? If so, how much? I can't make it out to the dealer for a few days. I could do the zip tie mod, but I think a new clip would make the job easier.

I went to the BMW Stealer today and was told that the clip isn't available, I would need to purchase the entire assembly for $170.

Anyone know where I can just purchase a new clip? I can do the zip tie fix, but I figured the new clip would be easier.

that's bull$hit, go to another stealer. they are less than a buck a piece. I just got two to fix my windows because I figured it would be easier too, full well knowing they will break again lol. You should buy 4 while your at it and just replace them all while your in there

There is a pic of the clips in this post, i think the part #'s might be in there too.

those are a different clip. I need the wide grey clip that the cable nut fits into. I guess that I will do the zip tie fix.

Also, the parts guy stated that they replace a ton of these all of the time. So BMW knows its a major problem. I guess it is up there with the bad tail light assembles.

yep, almost everyone I have ever known who has owned a BMW of any model has experienced problems with the windows clips, window regulators, and transmissions. Not sure about the tail light issues, that **may** be specific to the X5, as is the leaky valve covers to the 7 series powerplant.

Personally I think it is a purposeful design flaw to get customers in the stealership, c'mon they know you got the clams when your driving a bimmer lol.
