Replacing Xenon Bulbs?

If I am just trying to switch out my OEM stock 4300k wit 6000k do i have to take out the whole headlight housing or can i just work wit them inside the hood. Also are there any DYI's how you get to them?

I HAVE A 2004 "FACELIFT" X5

I believe you are going to have to remove the headlight assemblies. Removing the bumper is required to do so.

I replaced my xenon bulbs without taking the whole headlight housing out.
You just have to pull the headlight housing forward, so you'll be able to reach all the screws on the cap of HID unit. I think there are 4 of them. You have to be careful while removing them so you don't drop the screws into the car. That's what I did with my 04 X5 3.0i.
