That's what I thought those clips are for. But all the 3.0i owners (well, at least 2 others) seem to confirm that there isn't such a cover The tranny, transfer case, and front drive shaft look fairly new and clean for a 3-year old. So that's why I thought it might have either fell off or the techs forgot to re-install it in a recent service visit. It's somewhat strange that most of the underbelly is covered except for that section.

That's what I thought too, I'd feel more comfortable if it had one there.

Be careful with that transfer shaft rusting at the edges, I had to replace mine last month after getting stuck on the NJ turnpike, not fun and a lot of $$$.
