Question Rain sensor problem - windshield replacement?

Hi all,

Wondering is anyone is able to confirm whether the dealer is correct in the following:

Recentley I have been experiencing problems with my rain sensor (when activated the wipers turn once, but when it rains they fail to turn, regardless of how hard it actually rains). I have taken the car to the dealer and they say ONLY the rain sensor needs to be changed.

I understand form past forum topics on this issue, that the windshield also needs to be replaced as the rain sensor is stuck to it - but the dealer says, provided the windshield is not 'pitted' or steamed up near the sensor area, then only the sensor needs to be changed (so they have ordered this part only). Are they correct?

THanks!
