Question Rain sensor problem - windshield replacement?

Hi all,

Wondering is anyone is able to confirm whether the dealer is correct in the following:

Recentley I have been experiencing problems with my rain sensor (when activated the wipers turn once, but when it rains they fail to turn, regardless of how hard it actually rains). I have taken the car to the dealer and they say ONLY the rain sensor needs to be changed.

I understand form past forum topics on this issue, that the windshield also needs to be replaced as the rain sensor is stuck to it - but the dealer says, provided the windshield is not 'pitted' or steamed up near the sensor area, then only the sensor needs to be changed (so they have ordered this part only). Are they correct?

THanks!

Hello,

that's weird, I also had rain sensor problem (in my case, I had bubbles in rain sensor area) and my SA said that I need to replace whole front windshield.
so they replaced whole front windshield under warranty.
you should visit other dealer to double check.

The rain sensor is not stuck to the windshield. The mounting bracket for it is. I just had my windshield replaced because it was broken by something, probably a rock, while driving into the Garden State.

If you don't believe them, pull the two covers in front of the mirror off (they just pull apart lateraly) and take a look for yourself. Pay attention to the sensor if you do. In order to remove/reinstall you need to open the clips on either side.

If it is only the sensor has problem, then you do not have to change the windshield. If the problem is the reflector (the purple plastic), then you have to replace the windshield.

Many thanks to you all for the info. Lets wait and see now if the replaced sensor does actually fix the problem.
