Thumbs down Yukkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So i have a 2000 plate x5 with 65k on the clock how much do you think out of that is driven backwards????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????]

Last week reverse gear just stopped working and i came here looked at loads of posts to get you thoughts and yes new gearbox!!!!! i have only owned it year and half and only done 4k at most so the owner previously has had a right touch and given me a car i can only go forward in!!!

Through bmw and even a freind i am looking at parting with £4,500 so rebuild it is as i reckon half the cost....the car is immense and has everything sat nav playstation loads of horses under the bonnet, 22" rims but no bloody reverse!!!!!

4,500 Pounds, for a rebuild?!

That's nearly $9Gs, USD...

Welcome to the Board: fairly unique first post, .

when my buddies tranny went at about 170k miles, reverse was the first gear to go. Sorry to hear about this sounds like a PITA.

That's more like it, imo...
one of my bro-in-law's owns a tranny joint in north Jersey and
does dozens a week: 3-4 of those are BMWs of some flavor.

His "normal" rebuild is less than $3400-$3800 USD on most BeamERs.
He has mentioned that reverse going bad is not unusual...

He offers two options: rebuild within "your trans casing" or,
rebuild with an already "rebuilt"/reconditioned housing/casing,
with all internals guaranteed for some period. Not pitching him,
as New Jersey isn't next door to you...just for info/comparo purposes.

Small world. A friend of mine used to own Marko Transmissions in Newark. He finally sold out to the city as they wanted to renovate the whole area. Maybe he knew Marvin? Anyway, when it comes to transmissions, it definitely helps if you know someone.
