Transfer Case Fit

Can anyone tell me if a transfer case from a 2005 3.0 X5 part number 27 10 7 555 297 will work on a 2001 3.0 X5? THANKS!

I would be surprised if it would fit. Post-2004 X5s use X-drive, a more advanced all wheel drive system than earlier models. Even if it fit physically, the controls would likely be different.
