Cool Kidney Grill Mod...

Ok gang, here's my thought. I'm going to remove the grille and replace it with a sport looking chrome mesh that will match the rings. Has anyone done this mod?
I've seen it on a 3 series on my last visit to San Diego...it was sweet looking. I won't do it until I find just the right mesh. Whatcha' Think.......Phil

Oh yeah, this is post number 100, so I guess I'm not the "New Dude" anymore......Much luv fellas......Phil

sport grill

hey there, how did it turn out? got any pics?

I'm thinking to replace my titanium with a black on my 4.6is, should look pretty more aggresive in black on Estoril Blue, don't you think?

have anyone done that, if so any nice pics?

cheers,
//T

Don't forget where your hood release pull is located! Wanted to make sure that's been considered in your plans.

I installed black grill on my previus 330xiT and it looks great due to the car was also in black, so I'm interested to do it again but haven't been able to find X5 pics out there with the black sport grill on Estoril Blue, should look nice though!

flying down to Germany next week so lets see if I will a pair

Personally, I think it would be a bit much for the kidney grills given their prominence and you'd also have to figure out what to do for the hood release that you need to access through the slats when opening the hood.

What I'd like to do on my '04 is replace the lower OEM plastic mesh with real mesh - perhaps with a semi-transparent black anodized finish on my Sapphire Black X. Now that would be hot! There's a company called RaceMesh that'll do this for us, but they'll need some OEM samples to copy. They already have them for several other BMW models but I haven't seen them on their web site for the X5. I wonder it there would be enough interest in this for a group buy?

Those grills look great, but your post is a bit off- topic from this one given that we're talking about mesh grills. You'll probably get better responses if you open a new thread specific to your questions instead of hijacking this one. I'm sure it was unintentional - just trying to help you out...

BTW - just in case anyone is interested - I dug up a short discussion thread that we had on mesh grills last year which sparked my memory. For my Sapphire, I'd like the mesh to be the exact same color as my black 4.4 exhaust tips - still love that idea...

The only nice thing on that 7-series pic, is the girl!Mesh on your X5 will cheapen it!

Have a look at this X5 with black mesh!It looks just like two black holes!Like someone stole the grills!The silver mesh wont look any better!
